Welcome to the fifth module of this course. This module focuses on the pathways for advancing tobacco harm reduction (THR) in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
Learning objectives
By the end of this module, you should be able to:
- Explain the principles of policy innovation that support risk-proportionate regulation of safer nicotine products.
- Describe how advocacy and public education can counter misinformation and build THR literacy among health professionals and communities.
- Identify opportunities to integrate THR within existing harm reduction and primary health care services.
- Assess the roles of key stakeholders, civil society, donors, researchers, policymakers, and nicotine users, in advancing THR agendas.
- Analyse how lessons from high-income countries can inform, but not dictate, LMIC policy approaches.
- Recognise opportunities for local innovation and product adaptation led by LMIC stakeholders.
